Carnet Foods: Frequently Asked Questions

We send your order via US Postal Service or United Parcel Service; whichever is cheaper. Your shipping and handling charge is based on the wieght of the package(s) we send you and how far it must be sent. This is similar to how the USPS and UPS charge us. Heavier orders tend to be cheaper with UPS. We pass these savings on to you.

An order for one 11.7 oz Ultra Gel costs $3.90 for shipping and handling. Of this cost, $3.20 goes to the USPS for postage. The remaining $0.70 is all we have to cover costs of packaging materials and labor. Similarly, an order for a 30 oz. Ultra Gel plus cookbook generally has a shipping and handling cost of $6.40. Of the $6.40, $5.40 goes to the USPS for postage and the remaining $1.00 is for our costs of packaging materials and labor (larger boxes cost more).

Unlike some companies which offer very low shipping costs, we do not hide any shipping costs in the cost of our product. You would pay the same $4.25 for an 11.7 oz. Ultra Gel at our factory outlet as you do ordering by mail.

We will calculate the most cost efficient shipping for you and determine which service to use. Of course, if you have a preference, you may request a service. However, this could lead to a higher shipping charge.

How can I save money on shipping costs?

Larger sizes and/or quantities are more economical to ship. By combining your order with orders from one or more friends, the cost per container can be reduced significantly.

Why is Ultra Gel not found in the grocery store?

Large grocery store chains charge a slotting fee for companies to place products on their shelves. This fee is anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000 per store! Since Carnet is a relatively small company, we can not afford such an expense to put our products in these stores. In addition, the turnover (or selling rate) at the store would have to be sufficient enough for the store to consider it worthwhile to keep the product. Currently, we do not have enough customers to provide sufficient turnover for these large stores.

For a list of stores which do carry Carnet products, please see our retailers page. If you would like to suggest a small specialty store near you which would be interested in carrying Ultra Gel, please tell the store manager about our product and ask them to contact us.

Why do you not accept credit cards?

Currently, Carnet does not accept credit cards due to the associated costs with processing a charge. We would have to pass these costs on to you, the customer. We are trying to keep costs as low as possible.
